Habitat Restoration
AquaEcosystemStudents in the seventh grade spent time re-potting bay grasses for our AquaEcosystem. They learned the importance of the bay grasses to the health of the wetlands. They were also informed about how the AquaEcosystem works and how the plants filter out the “nutrients” from the fish waste and recycle clean water back to the fish tank. In the AquaEcosystem, the students will be growing and taking care of both bay grasses and striped bass so that they can be re-potted and released at the end of the school year.

Bluebird BoxesThe lower school science curriculum includes the study of bluebirds, along with other birds, and all students know how to tell the difference between a bluebird nest and the nests of any other birds. Students researched the best style of house and recruited a parent who has very generously donated his time and materials to the project. Building bluebird houses both to take home and to install on our trail, keeps our lower school students happily learning about and caring for these Maryland birds.

Our SwaleOur Fourth Graders worked with Mr. Vars to create a swale for the property adjacent to the playground and blacktop. The purpose of the swale is to collect storm water runoff and redirect its path.
